Biographical / Historical

Rieker Star Brewery was located in the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in an area known as “Cabbage Hill.” During the early twentieth century, Lancaster was known as an active brewing city with over 40 breweries. Established in 1876 by Frank A. Rieker, the Rieker Star Brewery operated under that name until 1907 when it became the Frank A. Rieker Estate Brewery. After Frank A. Rieker died in 1907, management of the brewery was assumed by his son Frank J. Rieker and other members of the family. In 1912, it was renamed the F.A. Rieker Brewing Company and remained under this name until 1920 when Prohibition officially shut it down. However, given the dates of the beer ledger, it was still in operation secretly from at least May 1924 to October 1926.
