Elizabeth Pierce Putnam Soule journal, 1855-1856
Content Description
Journal of Elizabeth Soule, of her daily life and devotions to the church. She mentions hearing Bishop Hopkins speaking on the 25th of May 1855 (he was the Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese in Vermont). Along with her signature in the journal is her brother's, E.F. Putnam, when he was a student at the Episcopal Seminary in Arlington, Virginia. It appears that he began this journal to record alphabetically themed references to religious meditations. Elizabeth then used it to record her thoughts in this brief time period. In it she mentions that both her mother and brother are dead and buried near one another. She also mentions a daughter Anna and her husband (never by name). She was married to Albert Galatin Soule (1811-1883) who was the Representative from Franklin County, Vermont in the State Legislature. After Elizabeth's death in 1863 he remarried and had 4 more children.
