Background note. The "Sally W." mentioned by Sallie most likely is Sally E. Woodward a Normal School student from Unionville in Chester County. David S. Cook was a student of the Normal School from Wrightsville in York County. Ebenezer W. and James Rogers were brothers enrolled in the school from Liberty Square in Lancaster County. Thomsonianism is a system which assumes that the human body is composed of four elements, earth, air, fire, and water, and that vegetable medicines alone should be used.Mrs. H. Marie Brooks, the wife of Edward Brooks, was the teacher of Music at the Normal School. Mary Bushong may have been the daughter of the former landlord where Sallies mother resided in Homeville. Rebecca Commins, daughter of Thomas Commins, was a family acquaintance of Sallie from Lower Uwchlan Township in Chester County. Ruth Ann Brosius was Sallie's aunt from Sadsbury Township in Chester County.
