Summary Note

Background note. Corienn Wickersham was the eldest daughter of Professor Wickersham and would later marry Reverend Dr. James Crawford, a prominent reformed minister from Philadelphia. The Page Literary Society (intentionally misspelled by Sallie) was founded the same year as the Normal School in 1855. The society was established to promote professional interests and included debates, poetry reading and musical entertainment. The society disbanded in April of 1955 due to a lack of student interest. The president of the society was G. W. Hillias from Rock Springs, Maryland. The Yankee Blade was the societies newsletter, which was published irregularly through out its existence. Professor Edward Brooks was an instructor in mathematics and vocal music in 1856 but would eventually become principal of the Normal School in 1866 after the departure of Professor Wickersham, and remain as principal until1883.
