History of the First Pennsylvania State Normal School

Scope and Contents Educator and historian Lee Graver wrote the history of Millersville Normal School and Millersville State Teachers College as a requirement for a doctorate in education from Rutgers University in 1953. His dissertation was published two years later by Nazareth Publishing Company in recognition of the 100th  anniversary of the establishment of the college.

Abstract Ledgers contain records of Israel Cooper's business in Columbia, Pa. ‡b Cooper built a log house for William Wright in 1823. Entries in 1825 note costs for building the Conestoga Bridge out of stone. Cooper built the Blue Presbyterian Church in Washington Boro (constructed in 1826 and torn down in 1861), and St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Columbia (in 1828).
