RoddyHall/Gilbert Hall/Lehigh Hall, 1953-
Scope and Contents
Roddy Hall was built in 1953 and was originally named for H. Justin Roddy and was a men’s dormitory. H. Justin Roddy was an 1881 and 1896 graduate of the normal school and taught geography and geology at MSNS from 1887 until 1926 when her retired. It was rededicated in 1964 and named for Sarah Hughes Gilbert, an 1877 and 1879 graduate of the normal school, who taught mathematics and, later, literature and elocution from 1881 to 1912. With the rededication it became a women’s dormitory. In 2017, with the opening of the Dormitory suites, the building was renamed Lehigh Hall.
