Biographical / Historical

No place or date in book but written on "J.S." watermarked laid paper. General John Steele was a Revolutionary War hero who established a paper mill on the Ocorara Creek about 5 miles below Atglen in Chester County, Pa. in 1788. Most of the laid paper was made before 1807, and most documents recorded by Gravell and Miller are from the 1790s which this book probably dates from.
