Biographical / Historical

Ethel Waters was born 31 October 1896 in Chester, Pa. The American singer, actress and composer performed jazz, big band and pop music, appeared on the Broadway stage and film and performed in concerts. She began her career in the 1920s as a blues singer. Her best known songs are Stormy Weather, Am I Blue and Taking a Change on Love. She died 1 Septmber 1977 in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, Ca.
