Biographical information

Paul Leroy Robeson was born 9 April 1898 in Princeton, New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1919 and Columbia Law School in 1922. He was a singer and actor, who became involved in the Civil Rights Movement. He was investigated during the McCarthy era and had his passport revoked for his pro-Soviet stance which adversely affected his chance to perform. He did eventually get his passport back but was no longer able to perform due to poor health. He died 23 January 1976 in Philadelphia.
