Biographical information
Godfrey Nurse was born in 1888 in Guyana. He received his M.D. degree in 1914 from the Long Island College of Medicine. He practiced medicine in Harlem for over 50 years, establishing the Edgecombe Sanitorium and the International Hospital. He also established the Godfrey Nurse Research Laboratory and was head of the Manhattan Medical Society. He died in 1967. His papers are held by the New York Public Library.
