Biographical information

Robert Keith McFerrin, Sr. was born 19 March 1921 in Marianna, Arkansas.  An operatic baritone, he was the first African-American man to sing at the Metropolitan Opera.  He began his education at Fisk University but transferred to Chicago Musical College, graduating in 1948.  He married Sara Copper in 1949 and they had two children Robert Jr. (Bobby) and Brenda.  McFerrin died 24 November 2006 in St. Louis, Missouri.
