Biographical information
The novelist, George Lamming, was born 8 June 1927 in Carrington, Barbados. He is considered one of the Caribbean's most important novelists. He emigrated to England in 1950 and became a broadcaster for the BBC Colonial Service. His first nove, [i]In the Castle of My Skin[/i], was published in London in 1953 and won a Somerset Maugham Award. He was awarded the first Caribbean Hibiscus Award by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in May 2011, acknowledging his lifetime's work.
