Biographical information

Composer, conductor and professor, Ulysses Simpson Kay, was born 7 January 1917 in Tuscon, Arizona.  His music is neoclassical in style.  He is the nephew of the jazz musician King Oliver. He played piano and saxophone. He received a B.M. degree (music education) in 1938 from the University of Arizona and then enrolled at Eastman School of Music, earning a M.M. degree in 1940. He died 20 May 1995 in Englewood, New Jersey.
