Biographical information

Eleanor Holiday, jazz singer and songwrighter, and daughter of guitarist Clarence Holiday, was born in Balitmore 7 April 1915. She was known by the nickname "Lady Day" and was a major influence on jazz and pop singing. She was in the movie [i]New Orleans[/i]. She wrote her autobiography, [u]Lady Sings the Blues[/u], published in 1956, which was the basis for the movie of the same title in 1972 starring Diana Ross. She died 17 July 1959 in New York.
