Biographical information
The American blues and vaudeville singer and dancer was born 15 March 1905 in Charleston, SC and died 7 May 1950 in New York City. She was best known for her recordings with Louis Armstrong. She retired from singing in the 1930s to raise her seven children. She staged a comeback in 1946 but was killed in 1950 when she was run over by a car.
