Biographical information
He was born in Pittsburgh 25 December 1922. He attended West Virginia State College but his education was interrupted by World War II. Following the war he attended Fisk University, graduating in 1947. He then moved to Italy to study art history at the University of Rome. He remained in Italy until 1969 when he returned to the US to teach English at the college of State Island of the City University of New York, retiring in 1989.
