Ossie Davis

Actor, director, screenwriter, playwright, producer, author was born Railford Chatman Davis on Dec. 18, 1917 in Cogdell, GA; married actress Ruby Dee in 1948; 1961, wrote and starred in Broadway play, "Purlie Victorious"; died Feb. 4, 2005 in Miami, Fla.

Ruby Dee

Actress, writer, playwright, activist; born Ruby Ann Wallace Oct. 27, 1924 in Cleveland, OH; married Ossie Davis in 1948. She is best known for co-starring in the film [i]A Raisin in the Sun[/i] (1961). She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film [i]American Gangster[/i] (2007). She has won Grammy, Emmy, Obie, Drama Dest, Screen Actors Guild and Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievements Awards. She is also a recipient of the National Medal of Arts and the Kennedy Center Honors.
