Biographical information

James Lesley Daniels was born in Laredo, Texas in 1908. From 1939 to 1942 he owned and operated the Harlem supper club that bore his name. In 1942 he went into military service. After his military service, he sang at such nightclubs as Bon Soir and Little Casino. In 1984 he participated in the Kool Jazz Festival's "Evening of the Music of Harold Arlen" just one week before suffering a stroke and dying at the age of 76. His papers are held by the Amistad Research Center.
