Biographical information

Born 12 April 1903 in Seattle, Washington to Horace R. and Susie Revels Cayton. His father founded the newspaper [i]Seattle Republican[/i]. His grandfather was Hiram Rhodes Revels (the first African-American elected to the US Senate).  He moved to Chicago in 1929 to study sociology at the University Chicago. He taught at the Tuskegee Institute and Fisk University.  His autobiography was entitled [i]Long Old Road[/i]. He died in Paris, France in January 1970 while researching a book.
