Biographical information

Born Arna Alexander Bontemps, he published his first book in 2000, [i]The Punished Self: Surviving Slavery in the Colonial South[/i] as Alex Bontemps. He is Associate Professor of African American Studies at Arizona State University.. He was the son of Arna Bontemps, author and Librarian/Archivist at Fisk University.
