Biographical information

American operatic bass-baritone and singing teacher was born 29 February 1928 in Tennile, Georgia and died 8 November 1994. He studied piano and voice at the New England Conservatory, graduating in 1954 and made his debut at Tanglewood in 1953. He was married to Ruth Ellington, Duke Ellington's younger sister.
